Christian Flag Supporters Gather to Fight City Decision

KING, N.C. —

The battle over the Christian flag controversy at the veteran's memorial here is far from over.

Last week King city officials approved a policy that will allow veterans to apply to fly a flag representing their faiths on a rotating basis.

The Alliance Defense Fund says the citizens of King, not the city, will choose flags to fly at the Veteran's Memorial in Central Park.

According to a statement released Wednesday attorneys with ADF are working with the King city council to create a "limited public forum" policy allowing the citizens of King to choose from flags recognized by the U.S. military, including the Christian flag, to be displayed on a rotating basis. ADF who is providing free legal advice to the city says the details of how it will work are still being worked out.

The King city council voted Monday last 4-0 to commission ADF to create the policy.

Despite the decision, supporters of the Christian flag want to take matters into their own hands and they met Monday evening.

City officials will announce the detail of a new public forum policy on Nov. 22.

Supporters of the Christian flag are also planning on filing a complaint with the state Supreme Court.

NOW WHY ARE YOU FIGHTING THE CITY'S DECISION. THIS IS WHAT YOU WANTED OR MAYBE NOT. NOW YOU REALIZE THAT ANYONE'S FLAG CAN BE PLACED ON THE FLAGPOLE AND THAT'S NOT WHAT YOU WANTED. YOU SHOULD ACT LIKE CHRISTIANS AND SUPPORT THE CITY'S DECISION. THE FLAG WILL GET TO FLY JUST NOT ALL THE TIME AND WILL HAVE TO SHARE TIME ON THE FLAG POLE WITH OTHER RELIGIOUS FLAGS.

I am one of the real housewives of King, NC. I cook, clean, raise the kids, take care of the cat, help mow the lawn, do yard work, work on the car, wash clothes, do the dishes and go to a 12 hour night shift job. EVERYBODY GETTING MAD AT WHAT THE CITY COUNCIL DOES ABOUT THE FLAG IS CRAZY. FIRST OFF, IF YOU ARE A CHRISTIAN THEN YOU SHOULDN'T BE SHOWING ANY ANGER YOU SHOULD BE PRAYING. THE BEST THING WE ALL CAN DO IS PRAY FOR AN ANSWER TO THIS PROBLEM AND SUPPORT THE CITY OF KING IN THEIR DECISION. Investigators Confirm Prosthetic Leg is Missing Girl's

HICKORY, N.C. (AP) —

Investigators confirm prosthetic leg found in western NC belonged to missing 10-year-old girl.

Hickory Police Maj. Clyde Deal said searchers found the leg last week at a home where the stepmother of 10-year-old Zahra Clare Baker's once lived. The girl had an artificial leg because she lost hers to bone cancer. Zahra, who also uses hearing aids, was reported missing Oct. 9 and authorities believe she is dead.

Deal said the prosthetic leg was discovered Tuesday afternoon near some brush in Caldwell County.

Zahra's stepmother, Elisa Baker, 42, has been charged with obstruction of justice. Police said she acknowledged to writing a bogus ransom note found at the scene of a fire in the family's back yard on the day her stepdaughter was reported missing.

The girl's father, Adam Baker, 33, was arrested last week. He is facing one count each of assault with a deadly weapon and failure to return rental property, two counts of communicating threats and five counts of writing worthless checks, authorities said. They are not related to his missing daughter's case.

Authorities in recent weeks have combed wooded areas and a landfill for evidence or her body.

Deal said Tuesday that Elisa Baker was taken earlier this week to a home where she once lived. At the time, he did not elaborate.

Hickory police also said investigators seized a mattress found by workers at a Caldwell County landfill. Deal said the mattress will be tested for DNA evidence.
