Holy Kudzu! Vine Said To Resemble Jesus

Some residents in Kinston are seeing more than just a vine in a growth of kudzu on a local utility pole.
The Free Press of Kinston reported that people began noticing a utility pole last week with kudzu that they say resembles Jesus on the cross. Kent Hardison runs Ma's Hot Dog stand and a half mile from the vine and said he was getting ready to spray it with herbicide until he noticed the resemblance. Hardison and his customers think the vine can be seen as a symbolic reminder that God is watching over people. But Kudzu Jesus may also cause some problems. A University of Maryland biology professor says kudzu costs power companies about $1.5 million a year to repair damaged lines.

WHATEVER. LOOKS LIKE A POLE COVERED WITH KUDZU. I DON'T SEE ANY RESEMBLANCE OF JESUS. NICE TRY.....

Featured programs and activities:

Puppet Bunch

Puppet Bunch targets children in grades kindergarten through second grade.  The objective is to introduce children to health careers while breaking down perceived ethnic and gender barriers, through the use of puppets.

CATCH (Catch A Totally Cool Health Career)

CATCH focuses on third through fifth grade students.  The objective of this program is to introduce children to health careers through the random selection of pre-chosen health careers and the use of props.

Cool People, Cool Careers

Cool People, Cool Careers is designed to introduce students in grades six through eight to health careers.  This is done with the use of props (i.e. two 18” dice, lab coats, mask, etc).

Project SEARCH (Student Education, Awareness, and Recruitment for Careers in Health)

This program is designed to recruit, educate, prepare and enhance the academic qualifications of rising eighth grade students for careers in the health professions.  Students will spend one week in residence on the campus of Wake Forest University and will have daily exposure to the Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Activities include health career presentations, tours, and observations.

Camp MED

Camp MED is a one-week day camp is designed to recruit, educate, and prepare high school students in grades 9-12 in the NW AHEC 17-county region for careers in the health professions. Activities include presentations, tours/observations and clinical experiences.

9-12 CERTL/NW AHEC Mini Fellowship Research Program

This program was designed to increase interest in science and mathematics research among high school students in grades 9-12. CERTL is the Center of Excellence in Research, Teaching and Learning and is a collaborative partner with NW AHEC. The program provides a six-week hands-on research experience with distinguished faculty from Winston-Salem State University and Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Students will develop, design and conduct a science or mathematics research project with the guidance of a faculty mentor.

Biology Summer Enrichment Program

This program was designed to increase the number of underrepresented minority high school students enrolled in Honors Biology.  Students participate in a summer session of Biology 101 on the campus of WFU and then are mentored by WFUSM students.  The student’s progress is also monitored by CERTL and NW AHEC staff throughout the school year.

TouchPoint

“Project SEARCH was a definitive influence on my professional career path during the formative stages of my progression through my high school and undergraduate career. It provided me with a valuable hands-on, interactive experience through a general overview of the varied positions within the medical profession. Having the opportunity to see how physicians and other medical staff members simply helped patients in need of their assistance has helped to guide me towards a career in clinical neuropsychology, with similar goals of helping young children, adolescents, and their families understand how various aspects of their brain’s functioning affects their learning and development. Overall, I would say that Project SEARCH and the North Carolina AHEC Program are valuable resources to offer to promising high school students who are the future of the health services professions.”

YOU KNOW HERE THEY ARE LETTING THE MAN WHO STARTED ALL OF THIS NONSENSE TO CAUSE TROUBLE AGAIN. HE SHOULD HAVE TO FLY THE FLAGS THAT HE GAVE PICTURES OF. IF NOT THEN THE OTHER PEOPLE SHOULD BE ABLE TO FLY WHATEVER FLAG THEY WANT TO. MY QUESTION IS WHEN WILL WE SEE A CONFEDERATE FLAG FLOWN? I MEAN LET'S GO THERE. THAT FLAG WAS FLOWN DURING A WAR.

NC Zoo Increases Admission Effective July 1 - Project Economy News Story - WXII The Triad

I don't care how much they go up. I will still go the NC Zoo. I love it there. Plan to take the family in the fall.

And what is your point?????

Love for ArtsImage via Wikipedia
This is a saying that I love.......What is your point? Well my point for today is if you do something wrong and get caught then you need to man up and take responsibility for your actions. Don't try to blame it on others or you know you are going to get into trouble and you try to say others need to get into trouble to. I CAN NOT STAND A LIAR AND I WILL NOT BE AROUND SOMEONE LIKE THAT. So while you try to involve me and my friends in your BS then just remember it will come back to haunt you.
JUST SAYING...................

Family!

Family Portrait - Montreal 1963Image by Mikey G Ottawa via Flickr
Family what a wonderful thing to have. We are nicer to strangers then we are to our own family. I have noticed people get mad over the smallest things especially as we get older. The question is as we get older do we become grumpier people? I think that we let ourselves get grumpier and we forget what makes us happy. I also think that grumpy people are at their happiest when they bring others down to their level. Instead of passing judgment on others why don't we talk things out. Quit taking some things to heart that don't matter. Live your life don't let it pass you by and maybe you won't be so grumpy. If there are things in your life that you don't like then try to change them. Live your life and try to love the family you have and cherish those around you who love you.

You know what I am so tired of hearing about this issue. This is to all of the people out there who feel the Christian Flag should not be flown. "GET OVER IT". Since the beginning of time people have been fighting wars for "GOD". Why do we constantly have to bend over for the minority? I don't see anyone bending over to put a Mexican flag or a Satanic flag up there but these people have an issue and wanted NO FLAG and got upset because a group brought their own Christian flag and flew it. Oh just get the hell over it. They did nothing wrong and they also are honoring veterans. It is not their problem if you didn't want to fly a flag because of whatever religion you are and we really don't care what religion you are. Most people mind their own business in America and maybe you should too because it does make the world a nicer place.

Hoe- Cake Receipe

Picture of Hoecakes Recipe Photo: Hoecakes Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 cup self-rising cornmeal, or from a mix (recommended: Aunt Jemima's)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/3 cup plus 1 tablespoon water
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil or bacon grease
  • Oil, butter, or clarified margarine, for frying

Directions

Mix well all ingredients, except for the frying oil. Heat the frying oil or butter in a medium or large skillet over medium heat. Drop the batter, by full tablespoons, into the hot skillet. Use about 2 tablespoons of batter per hoecake. Fry each hoecake until brown and crisp; turn each hoecake with a spatula, and then brown the other side. With a slotted spoon, remove each hoecake to drain on a paper towel-lined plate. Leftover batter will keep in refrigerator for up to 2 days.

This article really makes me mad. How in the world can Stokes County use the Lottery money that was given by the State for the school system on paying off debts in other areas. Now they try to blame the tax increase on the school system. Well perhaps the county needs to give back the lottery money to the schools. When I worked for the county one of the officers I worked with received a grant from Walmart to purchase the jail riot gear. Well he then had to turn around and give the money to the county and they in turn gave us part of the money and then spent the rest for whatever else. The county should have let the jail use the money and I mean all of it for what the grant was intended for instead of trying to keep a piece for themselves. Like I have always said," Government is crooked and all they want to do is take our money for themselves."
