Weylandt died in a crash during the third stage of the Giro d'Italia, Monday, May 9, 2011. The Leopard-Trek rider fell at high speed during a descent about 20 kilometers (12.4-miles) from the finish and lay motionless on the roadside before paramedics tried to resuscitate him.
